Government fixes retail prices of 53 new medicines; NPPA issues notification

The government has fixed the retail prices of 53 new medicines, ensuring affordability for essential drugs used to treat various health conditions. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has issued a notification stating that pharmaceutical companies cannot sell these medicines at a price higher than the prescribed limit.

The medicines include those used for pain relief, fever, infections, multivitamins, calcium D3 supplements, diabetes, heart ailments and other lifestyle diseases. As per the notification, only the Goods and Services Tax (GST) can be added to the fixed price, with no additional markup allowed.

This move aims to regulate drug pricing and prevent overcharging by pharmaceutical companies, ensuring that essential medicines remain accessible to the public.
