Meanwhile, BJP is currently leading in 45 out of 70 assembly constituencies, while AAP is ahead in 25. Congress has yet to secure a lead in any seat.
The New Delhi constituency is witnessing a high-stakes battle featuring Kejriwal, Verma, and Dikshit. Vote counting began at 8 am across all 70 Delhi Assembly seats, including this crucial segment. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 56.41 per cent, with results expected to shape the political landscape of the national capital.
This election will determine whether AAP secures a fourth consecutive term or if BJP stages a comeback after more than 26 years.
Kejriwal, who previously won the seat with a strong mandate backed by AAP’s welfare schemes, faces a tough contest this time. He has campaigned on his government’s record of free electricity, water, and improved healthcare and education. Verma, a two-time MP from West Delhi, is the BJP’s challenger, focusing on law and order, pollution control, and alleged governance failures of AAP.
Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, banking on his family’s legacy and the party’s past governance, has positioned himself as an alternative to both AAP and BJP, promising a revival of Congress in the city.
The election has seen a three-way contest, with 699 candidates vying for 70 assembly seats. The final results will determine if AAP retains control or if BJP or Congress manages to reclaim ground in Delhi politics.
