8th Pay Commission Salary Calculations: The 7th Pay Commission's tenure will end on December 31, 2025. The government is yet to decide if it will be extended. Once its tenure ends, the 8th Pay Commission will come into existence. But there is no confirmation on the date of the 8th Pay Commission. Centre is yet to appoint the chairman and members for the 8th Pay Commission. Once the commission is established, the fitment factor will be decided, based on which the basic pays of central government employees will be decided. There are many possibilities of fitment factors that may be applied for the 8th Pay Commission.

A fitment factor is the parameter for determining the basic salaries of central government employees. The existing basic pay is multiplied by the new fitment factor.

For the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor is 2.57.
What can be fitment factor for 8th Pay Commission?
The fitment factor is yet to be decided. But there are many fitment factors that may be applied. Some of them may be 1.92, 2.08, 2.28, and 2.57.

The minimum basic salary for the 7th Pay Commission is Rs 18,000.

The maximum basic salary for the 7th Pay Commission is Rs 2,50,000.
Does salary remain static in a pay commission?
The fitment factor is applied only in the beginning of a pay commission. After that, the government increases dearness allowance (DA) of employees twice a year.
Maximum DA limit
DA can be 50 per cent or more. The thumb rule is that the DA is merged with the basic salary for the new pay commission

In such a case, the government will most likely keep increasing DA. Once the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations are implemented, the DA will become 0 and the new salary slabs will come into effect.
