Railway clarifies on Rs 500 parking fee for 44 minutes at New Delhi Station

A recent complaint from former Police Chief DG BSF Prakash Singh on social media sparked confusion and outrage over the parking fee structure at the New Delhi Railway Station. Prakash Singh claimed that they were charged Rs 500 for 44 minutes of parking. Prakash Singh also shared a parking slip on social media platform X and said,

"I returned from Prayagraj today. My car was waiting for me at the New Delhi railway station. We were asked to pay Rs 500 at the toll booth for 44 minutes of parking. I wonder if this was a parking charge challan or an “Indian Railways-sanctioned robbery."

To which Northern Railway replied, "A 'parking cum access control system' has been introduced at the station for the convenience of passengers and vehicles. For this, passengers are charged Rs 0 for every 0-8 minutes of parking, Rs 50 for 9-15 minutes, Rs 200 for 15-30 minutes and Rs 500 for more than 30 minutes."

Rates of Access Control are 0-8 Minutes- 0, 8-15M - ₹50, 15-30M - ₹200/- and above 30M it's ₹500/-.

Although, Indian railways has clarified the parking fee structure, stating that a 'Parking cum Access Control System' has been introduced to ensure smooth passenger and vehicle movement at the station. Under this system, a separate system works for those vehicles that are not in the parking lot and are waiting for passengers in the area, which are charged separately from the normal parking fee.
